Gator Girl Knits

I created this blog to share my love of knitting and my knitting projects with friends, family and other knitters on the internet. I also wanted to share some of the free patterns or tips I find with other knitters. Thanks for taking time to visit my blog! Jennifer

Long time... no writing!

Okay, so I tend to put my knitting down and then forget about it. My forgetfulness apparently applies to my blog as well -- I have not touched it since 2006! A lot of things have happened to me over the PAST FEW YEARS, and it didn't occur to me to write about it. Well, here is the update:

1. I passed the PRAXIS... thank goodness! In the top percentile, thank you very much :)

2. I am teaching English at a local high school and loving it (most days).

3. I am planning a wedding... more on that later.

4. My current knitting project is an entrelac shawl. Will post pictures soon...

5. I have recently learned to knit socks, and I can't get enough of socks!

Baby Blanket Boo Hoo!

The baby blanket is off to a very bad start! The pattern was wrong; in all my attempts to "fix" the pattern, I simply couldn't. I am now looking for a new pattern. Most of the ones I am finding are for crochet. There was one I saw for knitting, but it involved cables. I am not ready for a cable project yet. Anyhow, if you have ideas, please point me in the right direction.

Back to knitting... And other things!

After a long hiatus, I have started knitting again! I finished my summer of back-to-back classes, but I started working again and taking classes. I am also busy studying for my PRAXIS exam, which I will take in November. I need to pass this exam, so I can receive a teaching license. Despite all the various things in my life, I have picked up knitting again. I have abandoned the felted needle case... I was getting very bored. A teacher at the school I work at is pregnant. I have decided to knit a baby blanket for her. I purchased some bulk, cotton, variegated yarn a while back. I got a pound of yarn for next to nothing. I love getting a good deal... even if I have no idea when I am going to use the yarn. The blanket got off to a rough start. I am following a pattern that I got off another blog, but I think there may have been an error in it. My blanket was not looking like the one in the picture. So I had to experiment a few times before I could see the pattern emerging the way I thought it should look. I will post a picture soon. Until next time...

No time to knit... Boo hoo!

I have been going non-stop for the past two weeks! I started an intensive 5-week, 15-credit block of classes two weeks ago. I start and finish one class every week. It's crazy. I have been knitting a little here and there, but not enough to make any real progress on anything.

Knitting Needle Case

I wanted to also show off the knitting needle case that matches the bag my mom and I made. We are very proud of them!

Cool Knitting Bag

My mom and I made this really great knitting bag. The first one we made was huge. It is perfect for my yarn stash (which seems to be growing exponentially). My mom then made a smaller one, which is perfect for holding a project or two, patterns and notions.
We also made a few needlecases and notion bags. We picked a very pretty red toile - very chic! I took it to my stitch and bitch, and I got a bunch of great comments.

A Warm Welcome

Hello! My name is Jennifer. I live in North Carolina; I am a voracious knitter. I thought a blog would be a cool way to display my work, and perhaps meet other knitters. Right now, I am knitting a wool knitting needle case that I plan to felt. I have never felted before, and I thought this case would be an easy start. It is a free pattern I got from Patons. I using their 100% wool yarn. So far the yarn has been great to knit. The only problem is that the project is taking forever - I am starting to get bored. This is a common problem I have - I try these big projects that take forever and a day to complete. Usually, I don't finish them. I have several unfinished big projects in my closet.
